AI brand hallucinations: wrong facts that keep getting repeated

A hallucination about your brand is a confident error: the wrong address, a service you do not sell, a merger that never happened. Fix the sources, not just the screenshot.

Treat a brand hallucination as a source-trail problem: find the page that still says the wrong thing and correct the set.

Capture the wrong answer and the likely source

Save the prompt, the tool, the date, and the exact false sentence. Then search that sentence. You will often find an old bio, a scraped directory, or your own outdated page.

Distinguish a true hallucination from a stale fact. Stale facts have a source you can correct. Invented awards may have no source, which means your disambiguation is too weak.

Correct the cluster of pages that agree on the error

Update the canonical page, then the profiles and partner bios that repeat the old line. One corrected homepage will lose to five directories that still list the old service.

If the error is dangerous — a licence you do not hold, a medical claim — say the correction in plain language on the about page, not only in a changelog.

  • Record the false sentence.
  • Find pages that still state it.
  • Publish the correction on the entity page.

Recheck the tools after they have had time to refetch

Models and caches lag. Recheck the same prompt a few weeks after the sources change. If the error persists, look for a PDF or a press quote you do not control and address that too.

Do not spam the brand name across new pages to ‘drown out’ the error. You will create a new mess for the model to compress.

Questions

Can you stop an AI from hallucinating your brand?

You can reduce the chance by publishing a clear, consistent description and correcting outdated copies. You cannot guarantee a model will never err.

Should you publish a page denying every wrong claim?

Publish a correction when the claim is material. A page of denials for every joke or scrap is not a strategy and can spread the phrase further.
