Google Business Profile issues that make a real business hard to choose

A Business Profile is a public record of where you are and what you do. Incomplete categories, old hours, and a website link to a dead page waste the local pack.

A Business Profile should repeat the same name, place, and service as the website, with a category a customer would recognise.

Make the profile match the shop or the office

The name should be the real business name, not a keyword phrase with a district bolted on. The address, phone, and hours should match the website and the door. A profile for a home office must follow the service-area rules rather than pretending to be a storefront.

Link to the specific page that explains the service, not to a tracking URL or a homepage that never mentions the location.

Choose categories for the work you want to be found for

The primary category does more than the list of extras. Pick the category customers would use, then add only the secondary categories you can justify. A clinic that adds every adjacent category looks confused in the pack.

Write a description that says the service and the area in ordinary language. Do not paste a keyword list into the description field.

  • Real name, address, and hours.
  • A primary category you can defend.
  • A website link to a relevant page.

Maintain the profile like a page

Hours change around holidays in Hong Kong, and a wrong close time is a failed visit. Put someone in charge of photos, services, and the link whenever the site is redesigned.

Check the profile in an incognito search on a phone. That is the version a customer uses to decide whether to walk over.

Questions

Should the business name include a keyword?

Use the real name. Adding a service or a district to the name to rank is a policy problem and confuses the entity.

How often should a Google Business Profile be updated?

Whenever hours, services, or the website URL change, and on a regular pass for photos and holiday hours.
