Building-name searches: towers, malls, and the floor you forgot to write
In Hong Kong the building name is often a stronger query than the street number. If you occupy the building, the page should say the tower and floor.
If customers search the building, publish the official name, the tower, and the floor in text on the branch page.
Use the name on the sign
Customers search the English name, the Chinese name, and abbreviations. Use the official names and the common short form if people really say it.
Do not target a prestigious building you do not occupy. That is a misleading address, whether or not it is a popular query.
Disambiguate towers that share a podium
Complexes with several towers need the tower letter or name in the H1 and the NAP. A street address that covers the whole podium will send people to the wrong lift.
Add the floor and the unit. Answer engines and map listings both drop the floor when it only appears in an image.
- Official building name plus common short form.
- Tower, floor, and unit in text.
- No implied tenancy you do not have.
Update the name when the landlord rebrands the mall
Buildings change names. Keep the old name in a sentence for a while (‘formerly…’) so existing queries still resolve, and make the new name the heading.
Update the Business Profile to the same wording or the pin and the page will disagree about which tower you mean.
Questions
Should the building name be in the title tag?
Yes when the branch is in that building and people use the name to navigate. Put the business name and the building, not a list of nearby towers.
What if several businesses share the building name as a query?
That is normal. Your page wins by being specific about the floor and the service, not by repeating the building name more often.
