The Hong Kong map pack: dense streets, shared buildings, fuzzy pins

In Hong Kong a correct pin is often a floor inside a shared building. A pin on the wrong exit or the wrong tower is a lost visit.

In a dense city the map pack is won by the entrance a stranger can find, written the same way on the site and the profile.

Place the pin where a person can arrive

Check the pin against the entrance customers use, not the centre of the estate. Towers with similar names in the same complex are a common Maps error.

Put the tower, floor, and unit on the profile and on the website. A street number alone can be true and still useless.

Write directions the way a local walks

Mention the MTR exit, the footbridge, or the mall level if that is how people arrive. Those details belong on the location page that the profile links to.

Photos of the entrance help more than a skyline. Customers use them to confirm they are at the right lift lobby.

  • Pin at the entrance customers use.
  • Floor and unit in the address.
  • Directions from the nearest MTR exit where it helps.

Watch for duplicate pins

Old addresses, practitioner listings, and agency duplicates split reviews and confuse the pack. Merge or remove the extras you control.

After a fit-out in a new unit, update the pin, the photos, and the page on the same day. Maps will keep sending people to the old door until you do.

Questions

Why is the Google pin on the wrong tower?

Shared buildings and similar tower names confuse geocoders. Move the pin to the entrance and include the tower and floor in the address.

Should every staff member have a map listing?

No. Extra listings split reviews and create duplicates. Keep a listing for the public business location, not for every employee.
