Knowledge panel optimization without pretending you can order one

A knowledge panel appears when Google is confident about an entity. You can make the facts consistent. You cannot submit a panel and expect it next week.

Make the entity consistent enough that a panel, if it appears, has only one story to tell.

Earn a stable entity first

Panels draw on the site, structured data, and other sources that agree. A clear about page, organisation markup, and consistent profiles are the groundwork.

New or loosely described brands often have no panel. That is normal. Do not build a doorway page aimed at ‘knowledge panel’ as if the phrase were a service query.

Claim and correct when a panel exists

If a panel is showing, use the official claim path and suggest edits that match the public site. Corrections that contradict your own homepage will not stick.

Watch for the wrong logo, an old social profile, or a description taken from a reseller. Align those sources rather than only clicking ‘suggest an edit’ once.

  • Consistent name, logo, and URL.
  • Claim the panel only if it is yours.
  • Fix contradictory bios before you expect the panel to change.

Treat the panel as a summary, not the strategy

Most customers will never look at the panel. The same facts that feed it also feed ordinary results and AI answers. Do the consistency work for those surfaces.

Recheck quarterly if you are a public-facing brand. Panels drift when a new directory overwrites the description.

Questions

How do you get a Google knowledge panel?

There is no form that creates one from nothing. Publish a clear entity, earn independent mentions, and use organisation markup that matches the visible site. Panels appear when Google is confident.

Can you control the description in the panel?

You can suggest an edit and, more importantly, change the sources the description is drawn from. You cannot lock the wording.
