Local citation building: consistent listings, not a longer spreadsheet
A citation is a mention of your name, address, and phone on another site. Quality is agreement with your canonical record, not the number of rows.
Build citations on directories that matter, using one NAP, and clean duplicates before you add more.
Start with the listings customers might use
Major maps, the directories your industry actually checks, and the Hong Kong profiles a partner would trust come first. A bulk submission to hundreds of empty directories creates drift.
Each listing should use the canonical NAP and link to the location or service page, not to a different campaign every quarter.
Correct and dedupe before you add
Search the business name and the phone. Claim the duplicates, merge them where the platform allows, and remove listings for closed branches.
If an old agency owns the login, recover it before you publish a second profile. Two claimed listings are worse than one incomplete one.
- Canonical NAP on every new listing.
- Duplicates merged before expansion.
- Links to the real location page.
Re-audit when the facts change
A new phone or floor number should trigger a citation pass. The site and the Business Profile are not the only places an answer engine will read.
Keep a short list of the profiles you care about. A 200-row sheet that nobody updates is how inconsistency returns.
Questions
How many citations does a Hong Kong business need?
Enough consistent mentions on real platforms. A small, accurate set beats a large automated blast that uses three versions of the address.
Do citations still matter if you have a website?
They corroborate the entity and feed maps. They do not replace a useful website or a maintained Business Profile.
