Local link building: mentions from places that share your customers

A local link is useful when the other site serves the same city or trade and the link helps their reader. A purchased footer link does not become local because the anchor says Hong Kong.

Earn local links by being a useful source for a specific Hong Kong audience, and send those links to the page that matches.

Look for editorial reasons in this city

Associations, neighbourhood guides, suppliers, and event pages already talk about the problems you document. Offer a guide or a data note that makes their page more useful, with a link to the specific section.

Start with organisations you can name out loud. If you cannot explain why a reader of that site would care, skip the outreach.

Point the link at the page that answers the mention

A homepage link is reasonable for a brand mention. A mention of a method should link to the guide. Give the editor the exact URL and a sentence they can cut.

Keep anchors plain: the brand, or the title of the guide. A local link with a stuffed commercial anchor looks arranged because it was.

  • Relevant Hong Kong or trade sites.
  • A resource their readers need.
  • Anchors that sound like a citation.

Keep the relationship maintainable

When you update or redirect the guide, tell the partners who linked to it if the URL changes. A local trail of broken links wastes the work.

Sponsor something you would sponsor without the link, and treat the link as a byproduct. Paid link schemes labelled as local PR are still paid links.

Questions

Are local links more valuable than any other links?

They are valuable when they are relevant. A local site with no audience and no editorial standard is not valuable because of its address.

Should every district page build its own links?

Only if the district page is real. Do not run outreach to prop up doorway URLs.
